New range of industrial robots starts with Motoman GP7 and GP8

Yaskawa is expanding its range of Motoman industrial robots to include the new GP series and has commenced with the introduction of the Motoman GP7 and GP8 models. The two robots with payloads of 7 and 8 kg respectively are not only the fastest in their class; they are also executed completely in protective class IP67. They can thus be used without further modification in harsher environments for handling and other automation tasks.

Their slender and curvaceous design allows the manipulator to delve deep into the workspace and smooth surfaces facilitate the cleaning of the GP robots. Only one robot cable is needed to connect manipulator and control unit. The advantages of this solution lie in less wear and a smaller footprint, as well as reduced expenses for maintenance and spare parts inventory.

Robots of the GP series are controlled by the likewise new Motoman YRC1000 control unit. The new drive technology reduces the time required for the confirmation process with the aid of minimized movement changes at different speeds. This extremely compact control unit enables optimum space utilization and is designed to set new standards in robot acceleration and speed.

The programming device of the YRC1000 control features improved cable routing. At only 730 g it is the lightest programming device in its category and can confirm a robot’s position and status via the 3D robot model display. The touchscreen enables intuitive operation for simple movement and scrolling with the cursor.

In addition, open interfaces predestine the new control generation for use in Industrie 4.0 environments. Last but not least, the new GP models incorporate the fast and highly dynamic motors of Yaskawa’s Sigma-7 series.
