Ground-breaking ceremony for the Yaskawa extension complex in Allershausen

Yaskawa is expanding its site in Allershausen near Munich, the headquarters of the European Robotics Division: five years after the Japanese technology corporation moved into its new building in Yaskawastrasse, the groundbreaking ceremony has now been scheduled to take place for an extension complex with 5,000 square meters of floor space.

With this construction project, the company is reinforcing and expanding its production capacities in Europe.

Yaskawa, with more than 350,000 units installed, is one of the world’s leading manufacturers in the fields of drive technology, industrial automation and robotics and is pursuing an ambitious expansion strategy in Europe: the aim is to become one of the leading manufacturers of industrial robots in strategically important European markets.

In this context, the Allershausen site plays a central role as the “shop window for Europe”. After having invested 14.6 million euros in the new site in 2012, Yaskawa is investing a further 7.8 million euros in the extension complex.

In addition to the project in Allershausen, the company is currently planning to build the first European Yaskawa robotics plant in Kocevje, Slovenia for approx. 25 million euros. The first robots will be produced from the autumn of 2018.

Currently, the Robotics Division employs approx. 960 staff in Europe; about one-third of these are located in Germany. In Allershausen 290 employees work in this division. The extension complex will provide 1,200 square meters of office space on three floors for staff merged from sites which had been spread out on different sites up to now. A workshop and manufacturing area will also cover over 2,000 square meters of space and a 1,600 square meter warehouse will also be created.

The extension complex has been conceived as an energy efficient building according to the KfW 55 standard. It is equipped with energy-saving LED lights and especially energy-efficient air-conditioning for the office areas. The energy requirements are largely met using renewable sources such as biogas and, subject to final authorisation, the site’s own photovoltaic facility.

Once the new extension complex has been completed, Yaskawa will vacate the remaining commercial real estate in the Kammerfeld industrial zone.
